Motherhood is Hard

A friend and I were recently talking about how hard the first few months of motherhood can be. She just recently gave birth to her little girl and being a mommy is quite new. "You told me it was going to be hard", she said, "I just didn't realize how hard it was going to be". It's so true! You don't realize how hard it is until you're living it. A million people can tell you that it's hard at first but you just can't imagine it. The wonderful thing is it gets easier!
I remember coming home from the hospital thinking that the worst was behind me. The labor and delivery had gone pretty well and I was feeling remarkably good. I didn't know that for me it was the easy part. The next month was going to be a learning experience like none I had gone through before.
Learning to nurse a newborn was one of the hardest experiences of my life. Many of my friends had gone through the same thing and I had listened to them talk about working through it. I wish I had really been able to understand at the time in order to prepare myself for what it was really like. It was hell, plain and simple. My hubby was so supportive but he thought we should consider a switch to formula. It's not that I'm against formula but all of the research I had done stated the numerous advantages of breastfeeding. I wanted the very best for my baby and to me that was not formula. To the lactation specialist we went, so much for nursing being cheaper.
Thank goodness for these lactation specialists. All of my friends had gone to the same woman, the "breastfeeding Nazi" she's been nicknamed by some, "a miracle worker" by others. I'll say maybe a little of both but if it hadn't been for her I probably would have lost my mind. Two sessions, phone calls, a few hundred dollars and a month later my little guy got the hang of it and life is much better.
I think one of the hardest things in the beginning is the complete and utter lack of sleep you get. I mean, who functions well waking up every two hours? I know I don't. Those first few months I was not a very pleasant person. There were many times I resented my little guy for waking up and then felt guilty for feeling so. He's gotten so much better now but it was quite a ride getting to where we are. Unfortunately his stuffy nose has made him regress in this area and we're back to waking up one or two times a night. Although, after living through getting almost no sleep four hours at a time seems like a gift.
Even though the first few months of motherhood may be the hardest thing I've every experienced it is by far the most rewarding. I wouldn't trade it for anything. I love that child more than I knew was feasible. I'm sure my husband agrees. It was quite an adventure for him as well. Thankfully I have the most supportive husband. He was up with me each and every time I got up those first few months until nursing was no longer a complete obstacle. I appreciate him more than I can ever express. I know he took a bit of a beating those first few months with the hormones, lack of sleep and overwhelming change but he was a trooper and I'm so glad I didn't have to do it without him.

Grand Cayman

We recently went on our first vacation with our little guy. We had been to Grand Cayman when I was six months pregnant and now we were returning with our son. It was a great vacation; much different than the previous one but still such a fantastic experience!

The Building Continues

As a friend recently put it, "sounds like you guys are staying busy". The holiday season was filled with parties and activities, all full of fun, but busy busy busy. Maybe one of these days I'll have the time to put up a picture post of our Christmas season. For now I'll just post a picture of the building process. It's coming along quickly and we're very thankful for that. The roof is mostly shingled and they will begin bricking this week. We love going over to see the progress being made. At this point we're picking out our bathroom vanities. Most decisions have been fairly easy. This one would probably be the same if John was not on the verge of pneumonia. For real. That was his diagnosis and he's been resting in bed for the last two days. Please pray that he gets through this and back to his high energy self soon!

In Eight Short Months

We will be moving into our new house within the next eight months. The papers are signed and the building is to begin within days. Thank you so much to all of you that helped us with input toward this huge decision. We're so excited. Please keep us in your prayers as we begin this process. I will be putting updates on the blog so that those of you far away will be able to see the progress.

The house will look much like the picture but no wrap around porch. I am amazed by the price of porches.

Filming SATC

I am so very jealous of my NYC friends right now. They have the opportunity to stop off and see the latest filming for the Sex and the City movie. It's rumored to be going on today at Saint Patrick's Cathedral. I'm not about to spill the beans here but if you want a huge spoiler go on over to US Weekly. Movies In The Making

After not being thrilled over the movies that have come out recently I am so excited to see what's in the process of being made. There are three movies in the making right now that are sure to be incredible!First, SATC is finally coming to the big screen! I am so excited about this movie. There are spoilers all over the internet about the storyline. Just seeing Big and Carrie together again is thrilling to me. [People]

Next, anything Jennifer Aniston is ok with me. He's Just Not That Into You looks like it's going to be a great one! I just love seeing Ben Affleck and Jennifer Aniston together (only on set!). [Pe ople]

Finally, I am thrilled over the fact that the book Confessions of A Shopaholic is going to be coming to the big screen. I love this series! I'm going to be counting down the days. Isla Fisher will be bringing Becky Bloomwood to life! [Popsugar]

Conde Nast has decided to call it quits on Jane Magazine after ten years. I, for one, was about to subscribe to Jane. My favorite former beauty editor contributes to Janemag.com, which will also be kaput. [Source] I find this interesting as I have been reading Falling Out of Fashion by Karen Yampolsky. Isaiah Washington has been fired! There will be no more of the amazing Dr. Burke on Grey's Anatomy. Well, I was already over it with the terrible season finale but this just seals the deal for me. While I did not agree with the actions of Washington, he has apologized and tried to make amends. Is there no forgiveness? [People][pic]

What's Next for Paris

Is Paris Hilton being treated fairly? Most responses I've received believe Paris is being shown leniency. I think I'm going to have to disagree on this one. I've been scanning the internet for research on the state of California jails in general and it looks like the state has quite a bit of work on their hands. According to the California State Sheriffs' Association overcrowding in California jails is a huge problem. It's not uncommon, and almost seems normal, for someone with a sentence such as Paris has to be released early. Only serving a slight percentage of the time allotted. Why then was Paris Hilton not to be released early? Is she to suffer strict rules due to the fact that she's a celebrity with an enormous amount of publicity? Don't get me wrong, I think the entire system needs an overhaul. I do not believe Paris should suffer as a result of some Judge wanting to make a statement. Why did Michelle Rodriguez serve a slight amount of her sentence before being released?

Actress Michelle Rodriguez was released from jail early, after serving less than a day of a 60-day jail sentence, authorities said Tuesday.
Rodriguez was sentenced for violating probation terms after her drunken driving arrest in Hawaii. She was released Thursday from a Los Angeles County jail due to overcrowding, authorities said. [Source]

It's not like Paris is totally getting off here. She's served three days, which is more than Rodriquez served, and is now under house arrest for another forty. Sure, this is a cake walk compared to prison but is still quite an inconvenience for someone such as partygirl Paris.
Now we have to waste more time calling her back to court to debate whether or not it was right for the Sheriff's Department to release her in the first place. Well, if she wasn't under psychological distress before then surely she is now.
Ok, I'll move on...as you can tell I'm just slightly annoyed by all of this! What are your thoughts?

Paris Released

It looks like overcrowding has given Paris a much shorter sentance. Honestly, I think the few days she was there was probably tramatic enough. [Source]
So, what do you think? Should Paris have gone to jail? Should she have had to serve the entire sentence? I'm torn.
UPDATE: Paris will be spending the next 40 days in her mansion. Her nice new anklet will see to it that she does not go outside of its boundaries. This will be torture enough for the socialite.

Rosie To Exit The View

Rosie announced today she will be leaving The View in June. Apparently contract negotiations got in the way. It doesn't really matter to me whether she stays or goes. I've never seen an episode of The View. I am tired of constantly hearing about statements Rosie has made on The View. Thankfully, that will cease in June. [Source]
